During winter the skin turns very dry as the oil glands just below the surface of the skin become relatively inactive and produce less moisture than usual. This dryness of the skin due to the drying effects of the sun and the wind may cause tiny wrinkles and give rise to various skin disorders like scaling, itching, chapping and eczema. And that is why to be a true winter beauty the skin needs extra care and attention.

Below are the few best ways to work against these ailments:

  • Avoid using soap completely. In fact clean face with milk cream assorted with a few drops of lime juice and a pinch of turmeric powder.
  • Massage pure Vaseline into face every night and in the morning massage moisturizer into the skin after bath for a proper skin care.
  • If dryness has caused scaling then take foods rich in vitamins as these vitamins are stored in the fat just below the surface of the skin negating any effect of dryness and roughness.
  • Keep away from eating chilled foods or foods below room temperature or cooling things like curds, buttermilk and salads, instead go in for spicy, hot soups and warm foods like makai, jowar, bajra, dry fruits and nuts which will provide the much-needed warmth and energy to the body.
  • In case of itching during winter take a tablespoon of sandalwood oil and mix in equal quantity of coconut oil and apply on the itching parts of the body a couple of times daily to get relief.
  • If suffering from eczema, initially the skin becomes red and later it turns dry, rough and scaly. Grind a walnut to a paste, squeeze out its oil and apply on the affected area a few times daily.
  • Winter also plays chaos with the hair making it dry, delicate and dull. To carry a healthy shine in one’s hair take some warm coconut oil and mix it with equal quantities of warm olive oil, make partings along the hair and dab the oil along each parting with fingertips. Continue in this way till the whole scalp is oiled and then wrap hot towels over the head to keep the scalp as warm as possible. After half an hour when the scalp has absorbed the oil, rinse with warm water and an ordinary shampoo after adding an egg in it.
  • Most of all, one should eat the right foods to enable one’s body to fight against the many ills of winter and to look a perfect winter beauty.
