Combating Dandruff

Dandruff is a very common hair problem that bothers many of us and many people also complain that with dandruff there is an increase in hair loss as well. Dandruff is made up of small pieces of dead skin flakes that peel from the scalp as a result of the effects of metabolism disorder. It is usually accompanied by an itchy, scratchy feeling in the head and affects the head either in the rainy season or in the winter months and most of the people suffer from dandruff sometimes in their lives.


Ordinarily, it can be removed easily with home remedies for dandruff, but in persistent and unceasing cases one should seek medical advice.

Dandruff can also give rise to acne and pimples. A little dandruff, though, sloughing off one’s head is not harmful but if too much of it settles on the scalp, harmful bacteria begin to multiply. These are further hindered due to excessive oil in the scalp which results in itching and ringworm of the scalp. If this germ laden dandruff falls on your back and shoulders, it gives rise not only to acne but also red itchy patches which keep on scattering. The best way to keep away from dandruff is to wash one’s hair daily to help remove filth and keep hair free from dandruff.

Home remedies for dandruff:

It is not advisable to use the medicated dandruff shampoos as they do not clear the dandruff but make it return with a vengeance. At the same time they can do a staggering amount of scalp and hair damages, therefore always go in for natural means to control your dandruff.

For dry dandruff: the best remedy is to mix lime juice with egg and massage into the scalp. Leave it for half an hour and then wash off.

For very scaly and itchy scalp: Massage vitamin E oil liberally into the scalp and cover with scarf and go to bed. In the morning wash head either with acacia concinna or baby shampoo and then rinse the hair either with 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar or lime juice dissolved in 2-3 mugs of water. Do this twice a week till the itching and flakes disappear.

Other home remedies:

Yet another way to treat dandruff shampoo is beating yolks of 2 eggs in ½ cup of warm water and then massaging this into the scalp and hair thoroughly. Wash carefully and then rinse it again with 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed in water as mentioned above.

Complement your diet with B vitamins by taking yeast tablets, eat liver frequently and take plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables and protein rich foods. If one eats the right food comprising of fresh fruits, vegetables and juices and keep scalp clean one will never fall prey to dandruff.
