People lose hair because of different causes.  It may be caused by a genetic factor, illness, or strong medications.  The major cause of hair loss is genetic, and therefore irreversible.  When caused by strong medications like chemotherapy, the hair loss can be reverted when medications are terminated.  Recently, studies have connected hair loss to lack of iron.  When the iron level in the body is low, a person experiences a degree of hair loss.  Fortunately, this deficiency can be overcome and bountiful hair regained.  The case of anemia and hair loss has presented several interesting outcomes.

Anemia is a condition of poor circulation of oxygen in the bloodstream because of low levels of hemoglobin in the blood.  However, it is not yet confirmed if anemia causes hair loss or makes the condition worse.

To determine if the patient has anemia, the hemoglobin levels are checked.  Unfortunately, few iron deficiency when anemia is not suspected.  The connection of anemia and hair loss has been studied in women are in their premenopausal stage, have just given birth, and all patients who have undergone surgery.  These categories have had blood loss due to these experiences.   In another instance, people who underwent crash diets, and those who are purely strict vegetarians should also be assessed for lack of iron in their blood.

A diet high in iron will be supplied by red meats, raisins and spinach.  The use of pill iron supplements should however have a doctor’s approval.  Too much iron can also cause heart and pancreatic disorders.  Depending on iron alone does not work a miraculous cure.  Iron can work effectively as a support to a hair loss cure.  The relativity of anemia and hair loss though can be established if the situation is judged from this angle.

The lack of iron in the body may not always be caused by a faulty diet.  It can also be caused by poor iron absorption by body and blood cell damage.  The common symptoms of low iron levels in the body are fatigue and malaise.  The poor circulation of oxygen in the bloodstream affects the optimal functions of the cells.

This may also cause anemia and hair loss to occur.

Iron deficiency anemia develops over time, and when this happens, there will be insufficient iron in the bone marrow.    The bone marrow will perform poorly in producing red blood cells.  Iron-rich blood makes the cells healthy.  Muscular and brain functions are at high levels when oxygen rich blood courses through the veins and reach the cells in the muscles and the brains.   Poor cellular function leads to anemia and hair loss that is likely to follow.

If you suspect you have anemia, eat more iron rich food like fish, red meats, and poultry.  Iron from meats and fish can be absorbed by the body compared to the iron in vegetables.

Vegetarians should be aware that the iron they are supposedly taking from vegetable will do litter for their anemia and hair loss if they are experiencing the latter.
