The people who are usually affected with hair loss are men.

Although there are women who lose their hair, most of the cases affect the opposite sex. This problem is due to a lot of reasons. It may be hereditary, due to medication, or to the release of a certain hormone. When it comes to the latter, the culprit would be DHT.

In medical terms, this is referred to as dihydrotestosterone. These are sex hormones which are produced within the testicles of the men. It has been speculated that these hormones are among the reasons why men develop a lot of medical conditions. These might include the enlargement of the prostate glands, acne breakouts, hair growth to the ears, nose or back. Compared to these problems, the loss of hair occurs the most.

The onset of male hair loss because of these certain hormones is caused by the following effects to the follicles of your hair:
The growth phase of a man's hair follicles is reduced, which is why more and more hairs cease to grow.
  • There is a growth of small follicles. Because of this, the hairs that grow are tiny. Plus, they replace the visible hairs on the head.
  • It is a fact that the follicles of your hair require a specific level of blood flow for nourishment and proper growth. Due to dihydrotestosterone, lesser blood amount flows to your hair follicles. Over time, its release will cause the gradual lessening of your mane. Then it will progress to complete loss of hair.

You will be able to keep all of your hairs from falling out. The following medications are said to be effective methods of protection from hair loss:
  • Propecia– in order for you to obtain this drug, you have to consult with your doctor so that he will prescribe you with this. It works through obstructing the enzyme that is responsible with the release of DHT.
  • Spironolactone– this is also a prescription medicine which obstructs the release of sex hormones. Its effects work by prohibiting the hormones from sticking to the receptors of your hair follicles.
  • Natural cure– you can opt for this when you do not want to go through the downsides of taking in a medication. There are a lot of herbal plants which are considered as effective treatments. These may include rosemary, chamomile, aloe Vera, and saw palmetto. The latter is a tropical red fruit which can be eaten directly.
