When your hair is always exposed to the sun's harmful UV rays, it will get damaged.

You will know that your crowning glory is affected by too much heat exposure when the strands are dry, have split ends, and break easily. In order to prevent these from happening, you should opt for hair photoprotection.

This is the process of hair protection which is done through utilizing hair care products. These usually consist of shampoos, hair cream conditioners, or hair colors.

You should constantly take care of your mane, with the use of proper treatments. This is essential for maintaining the manageability and shine of your hair shaft.

Some people say that when you have your hair colored permanently, this will ruin its texture. However, this is not true since hair colors are proven to protect the normal fibers of your hair from the radiation of the sun's harmful rays. So, if you are thinking of changing your brown mane to black, it would be alright for you to do so. Not only will you prevent damage, you will also be able to sport a new look.

Your hair strands have lipids which are responsible for keeping the healthy texture of your hair. They provide protection to your hair shaft, making it smooth and glossy. When these are destroyed, your crowning glory will appear lifeless. Without the lipid coating, your hair will look frizzy. Furthermore, it will break even if you are just combing it.

The main reason, why the health of your hair lipids declines, is too much sun exposure. The latter results to the weakening of disulfide bonds, which are responsible for strengthening your hair. When this happens, the bonds will not be able to keep your tress healthy looking.

On the other hand, exposure to the sun also leads to the production increase of oxymelanin. Through this, the normal pigmentation of your mane is destroyed. In turn, your hair will turn into a lighter shade. Despite the damage that it can cause, its average production is greatly needed to avoid damage as a result of UV radiation.

There are two types of hair photoprotection, and these are:

Intrinsic – uses permanent and semi permanent hair colors to prohibit heat damage. The most appropriate color should be darker than your normal hair color

Topical – this type of hair photoprotection process usually calls for the use of “professional hair care products”. These might include cream conditioners, hair spray, or styling gel. Aside from keeping off dryness, it also provides great hair style.
