The act of shaving facial hair can actually take its toll on the facial look of a man.

Regular shaving can cause razor burns and these skin impurities are not pleasant to the sight, in issues about proper grooming and hygiene for men. Razor burns are skin irritations around the shaved area of the more sensitive skin type or practically a result of an improper technique of shaving. In a closer look to the affected areas, the razor burn is a reddish mild rash.

Although they gradually disappear on its own timing, a few hours after the shaving, in some severe cases, the razor burn can last to a few more days as the irritation is accompanied with razor bumps which are red welts around the shaved hair. But there are some easy and quick remedies on how to get rid of razor burn right in your own kitchen.

The basic home remedy for a razor burn is simply by dabbing a small amount of apple cider vinegar in the area of skin impurity with the use a cotton ball or a clean cloth. There may be some stinging effect of the treatment on the skin irritation but it is pretty much like the burning and cooling sensation of a rubbing alcohol. But disregarding the downtime of the sting effect is easy since the home remedy is as effective as it can be.

The truth about the adage that “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure” is also relevant to the early treatment of razor burns. Before you start the shaving action to get rid of your unwanted facial or body hair, a warm bath or a quick shower will remarkably diminish the level of discomfort of after shaving effects. It is believed that bathing reveals the natural softness of the skin so that the razor blades do not get in tight friction with the skin and the hair, not to mention that the warm water will open the skin pores which make the hair follicles less stubborn.

The lubricant aid you use when shaving your facial hair also plays a significant factor. Instead of using the foam from bath soaps it is advisable to use a decent shaving cream. The act of shaving with the use of bath soap suds actually makes the skin dry so that skin abrasions are created by the razor which leads to razor burns. The bath soaps may also contain beauty chemicals that may be right for bathing but too harsh for the shaved skin.

If apple cider vinegar is not available for a home made remedy for razor burns, then it is time to seek help from your handy-dandy headache antidotes. Create a paste mix from two uncoated aspirins dissolved in a teaspoon of warm water. This balm-like home concoction will be used a lathering cream on the irritated area. Just leave the cream on the red spots and the surrounding areas for a little while and wash the area in lukewarm water. The cream may have a sticky feel like a pomade, but come to think of it, you can skip the burning sensation of the vinegar antidote.
