Over the years, people have dyed their hairs for many purposes. Whether to cover up gray hair, follow a fashion, or simply a touch of style and new look, hair dying has become a trend and for most, a status symbol, from the movie centers of Hollywood to the world’s major cities. Time and again, we have seen celebrities from different parts of the world on television, film, or theater flaunting their hair dyes.

And we have seen how ordinary individuals have joined this bandwagon. This is not a bad bandwagon, after all. In fact, hair dying proves beneficial to some hair types. But did you also know that there is a hair dye that will suit your hair? Did you know that choosing the wrong hair dye or having your ideal hair dye but applying it the wrong way can cause damage far more regrettable than you ever expect?

True, hair dying makes you in with fashion. It keeps you in the know and it makes you look younger, if you have began growing gray hairs. But it is in the first step of choosing which hair dye is for you that will make the difference. The rest is following exactly the instructions at the back of the box. In choosing a hair dye, remember that there are two of such kinds. There is the permanent hair dye and the semi-permanent hair dye. From its very names, we know that permanent hair dyes stays longer than semi-permanent hair dyes. Usually, semi-permanent hair dyes are washed off after eight to ten shampoos and would not really be worth it if you have not even enjoyed your new hair color.

For starters, determining which type of hair dye depends on what results you want to see for the moment. Semi-permanent hair dyes contain an approximate three percent of peroxide, a harmful chemical that is definitely harmful to the hair, skin, and eyes. This is especially good on gray hair and should only be applied in the graying areas. It is also good for hair that tends to be frizzy, as it gives that “settling” effect. Permanent hair color dyes are also hard and harsh on the hair. By mixing it with hydrogen peroxide, the hair dye is guaranteed to a last beyond ten shampooings. What peroxide does is to lift the hair’s original color and allows the new color to move through the hair cuticle into the cortex. Both of these methods can both lighten or darken hair. This type of hair dye is usually recommended for blondes.

Natural hair dyes, permanent or semi-permanent, regardless of which you plan to use, here are some hair dying tips worth remembering. It is always better to choose a hair dye color that is not far from your real hair color. Before applying hair dye, wash your hair with shampoo that will remove buildup. Then, when applying hair dye, make sure you don gloves because dye can just color the skin. To keep dye off the skin, apply Vaseline. This is a very effective way of dyeing because you’re supposed to color your hair and not your skin. And again, never forget to follow the instructions at the back of the dye’s box. Following it in toto will be very informative to you, as some dyes do well under caps or under warm conditions. Once the process is finished, you can now enjoy your new hair where self-expression is brought to the next level.
