There are basically three types of skin, dry, normal and oily.
The type of skin a person has is usually acquired from birth and doe not change overtime. So if your skin is dry, you have to live with it for the rest of your life. Of the three types oily skin is the most problematic and needs the most maintenance. During puberty, skin usually becomes oily, which causes acne and pimples.
But it is usually temporary and the skin reverts to its original skin type as soon as the puberty stage is passed. But for people who really have oily skin, it is a life long endeavor to maintain. The same factors that make skin oily during puberty are also present for oily skinned people. It’s just that for them, it does not go away. This is usually due to a hormonal imbalance causing the skin to secret more oil than normal. Oily skin requires more maintenance because it is prone to acne, boils, pimples and open pores. There are many products offered to the market and oily skin care products exclusively made for oily skin, such as soaps, creams, lotions and moisturizers. Although most are effective in controlling oil secretion, the chemicals it includes can also damage skin after prolonged use. There are also natural remedies to lessen the oil secretion of skin. An alternative method becoming popular is aromatherapy. Aromatherapy is an alternative medicine method making use of scents and essential oils to change a person’s mood thereby affecting the persons healthy. It is mainly a way of relieving stress but has also been shown to help relieve many ailments. Aromatherapy helps to alleviate oily skin problems in two ways. One is through the use of essential oils mixed with skin products causing a decrease in oil secretion. Cedar wood, lavender, sandalwood, tea tree, ylang-ylang and jojoba oils are just some Essential oils that help prevent oily skin and also heal and prevent inflammation. Although this is a more direct approach in as much as the oils are directly applied to the skin, it is not the truly direct approach when it comes to aromatherapy. As we have stated earlier, aromatherapy heals through scents. In solving the oily skin problem aromatherapy also takes the same approach as its other method. Basically, aromatherapy helps keep the mind in a stress free state and in the process makes the entire body healthy, including the skin. There may be a great deal of truth in this assumption. It is noticeable that many people who are always tired and under a lot of stress also have bad skin. Some studies have suggested that stress does contribute to an unhealthy skin. Also, people with oily skin do tend to have aggravated oil secretion during times of pressure and stress. On the other hand the opposite also seems to hold some truth: people who are able to deal with stress positively who are much happier and less tired usually have glowing and radiant skin. Aromatherapy tackles the problem of oily skin by making the person generally less stressed and more in a good mood and though this creates a less oily and healthier skin.
