There are so many problems a person can face regarding his hair, and there are two main conditions that embarrass most to no end.

If you’re one of those who suffer from these, don’t worry, because these problems can easily be answered by medicated shampoo.

Problem number 1: Pityriasis capitis

Pityriasis capitis is commonly known as dandruff. It is the excessive shedding of the dead skin on the scalp. It is itchy and causes white flakes, to fall from your head. There are hair care products which help control dandruff.

These are dandruff shampoos, a medicated shampoo
specializing in controlling dandruff.

In preventing dandruff formation, these medicated shampoos help by removing the sebum, which is an oily secretion of the sebaceous glands and is supposed to waterproof hair. Medicated shampoos also help control the amount of scalp scale production, because the more the scalp produces scales the more the dandruff will be. Lastly, the shampoo acts as an antibacterial and antifungal agent, to prevent the scalp from drying, and to maintain the health of the scalp. Because of its multi-functional uses, it is able to combat other diseases, which includes psoriasis, which is excessive skin production, and seborrheic dermatitis, the flaking of the skin.

The most effective dandruff controlling ingredient is the Kentoconazole because of its antifungal function. This ingredient can be found in the commercial product, Nizoral® shampoo.

Another active ingredient, which is also antifungal and helps treat seborrheic dermatitis, is another effective way of removing dandruff is the Zinc Pyrithione. It is found in the commercial product Head and Shoulders, where it is called ZPT.  Unlike entoconazole, ZPT should be used in for several times over a longer period before it could do its thing.

Selsun Blue® shampoo is a dandruff shampoo in the U.S. which is a good alternative to the leading product, Head and Shoulders, but costs more. Its active ingredient when it comes to countering dandruff is Selenium Sulfide, which is very effective in controlling dandruff and helps treat serborrheic dermatitis.

Another potent active ingredient is Sulfur. It is commonly used in shampoos used by horses, because it strengthens the hair strands plus it prevents fungal pores from growing. This makes it an effective active anti-dandruff ingredient. Just like Selenium sulfide, it is an agent in treating psoriasis. Lastly, Peroctone Olamine is a compound ingredient which is effective in preventing fungal infections in the scalp.

Problem number 2: Pediculosis

Pediculosis is known as lice infestation. Lice or nits are small bugs that feed on a person’s scalp and leave behind eggs, which will hatch into other lice and so goes on the rapid increase in the lice population in your hair.

There are lots of ways in controlling lice in your hair; some of them include using insecticide-medicated shampoos, but sadly these have side effects. But, there are other insecticide-medicated shampoos that are safer.

Medicated shampoos for lice infestations sometimes contain the insecticide Permethrin, a common synthetic chemical that is usually used as an insecticide for poultry. It is also an anti-fungal agent, and is devoid of adverse side effects, making it safe to use.

Pyrethrin, a synthetic chemical, is another insecticide used in medicated shampoos. It is a form of neurotoxin, a class of compounds that attack the nervous system. This could cause irritation to the eyes, skin and the respiratory system, however. But on the positive side, it can also help fight against scabies, which are similar to lice. Scabies lice, however, crawl into your skin and lay eggs. This condition is very itchy.
