Men with bald heads have a tendency to develop scalp problems, since the head is more exposed to the environmental elements, chemicals, and stress; and do not have the protection that hair would give.
Bald heads require effort in taking care and having a proper hygiene and regimen in order to avoid scalp or skin problems. Acne is a common problem experienced by those who have bald heads. This can be caused by several factors. Acne results when follicles are clogged with oil and dirt.
The irritation this causes leads to an inflammation, and appears on the skin through pus-filled pimples. Since acne results from overactive oil glands, the best remedy for this is to use a cleanser thrice a day to minimize the accumulation of oil in the hair follicles. Exfoliation of the skin is also a good way to prevent acne from accumulating on the bald head and for preventing the build up of dead skin cells which can also clog hair follicles. Poor shaving habits can also lead to another scalp problem, which are ingrown hairs. Ingrown hairs appear as a bump, as pimples around a hair follicle, or as an itchy rash. Shaving in the opposite direction from where the hair grows can lead to ingrown hairs. To prevent ingrown hairs, it is advisable to use proper shaving cream and shave in the direction where the hair grows. Also remember to shave after a hot bath, which opens and loosens the pores and makes shaving easier. Rinse afterwards with a cold shower. Razor bumps is another scalp problem experienced by bald men. This occurs when one shaves too often, where the razor is too close to the skin or when shaving is done too frequently. To avoid this, let the hair grow out to ¼ of an inch so it is not too short to shave. Also, it helps to shower in hot water, use shaving cream, clean the blades of the razor with alcohol to ensure a clean shave and change the blades every week, avoid shaving every day, exfoliate the skin regularly. Also remember to avoid shaving over the same spot twice. If the scalp is clean and healthy, and with the proper shaving techniques, razor bumps should not be a problem. A razor burn is a scalp problem that is caused by poor shaving, inefficient blades, and shaving too often. It will manifest itself in the scalp of a bald head through redness and irritation. To avoid razor burns, it helps to change the blade every week, as using an old blade will irritate the scalp. Dry shaving is also a cause for razor burn, so to avoid this, make sure you shower in hot water and use shaving cream, and allow the shaving cream to settle in the skin for 2 minutes before shaving. Following the shave, using an after shave with moisturizing ingredients like aloe vera and moisturizing cream will help prevent the onset of a razor burn. By practicing proper shaving techniques, the chances of getting scalp problems should be minimized.
