There are several hairstyles to choose from.

One can go for clean cut, barber’s cut, long hair or Afro hairstyle. Each hairstyle has its own hair care styles. Among these different hairstyles, the Afro hairstyle has the most specific manner of care.

Black Afro hair is very difficult to maintain but once you get the hang of it, it is already easy to follow up.  The texture of an Afro hair is very dry. It has thick strands and the sebum or oil which is secreted by the sebaceous gland is not enough to compensate for the length of the hair. This is the reason why Afro hair should not be washed and shampooed more than once a week.

There are also some who advised that it should not be shampooed at all. Instead, you can use baking soda or some related products in cleansing it.

The Afro hair should always be moisturized. Ensure that there is enough amount of water which is retained in the hair. With the many different hair products intended for the Afro hair, it is easier to look for products like hair sprays, oil shampoos, leave on conditioner and sprays, to serve this purpose.

Another way of moisturizing the hair is by drinking lots of water everyday. Take in at least 1.5 liters of water every day. This will be supplied to the roots of your hair. In addition to this, you can also use shampoo which is not too harsh and does not dry your hair more.

Combing the black afro hair is the next step. When combing your hair, look for appropriate type of brush. Do not use the regular type of comb because it does not suit your hair. Instead, use brushes with blunted cogs to minimize any breakage in the hair. Just like with ordinary hair style, you should also start from the end of your hair going up. You can do this routine, every after you shampoo and while your hair is still wet. During the days when you can not brush your hair, you should use your fingers to fix and design your hair.

One problem with Afro hair is that it produces a lot of tangles. In order to prevent the formation of tangles, it is best to wear a sleeping cap or to wrap your hair with a scarf. Another way is to divide your hair into three and tie it in a pony tail. Instead of cotton pillow cases, invest with satin pillow cases. Satin pillowcases are softer compared with the cotton pillowcases and it absorbs less moisture from the hair. There is also less friction on the hair and satin pillowcases.

You can also avail of a deep and hot conditioner at least once a month. This treatment will make your hair healthier and stronger. It will replenish the lost moisture in your hair. Together with the hot conditioner, you can also request for a scalp massage. The scalp massage will help with the circulation of sanguine.

Lastly, you can also use some vitamin supplements to replenish the vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are lost. Once these elements are provided, repair and damage control is done with your hair.
