How to treat sunburn

A sunburn blister is a result of overexposure to Ultra Violet (UV) rays. The intensity of sun light that can lead to sunburn varies from person to person. People with high melanin content in their skin are less prone to sunburn compared to those with a low melanin content.


 
The symptoms of sunburn are:

 

  • The skin becomes reddened and painful.
  • Severe sunburn may lead to swelling and blisters.
  • There can also be symptoms like the occurrence of fever or chills.
  • The afflicted person may also experience giddiness and fatigue.
  • The affliction may also lead to shock, featuring low blood pressure and weakness and as such, treating sunburn blisters timely is of great concern.


Sunburn blister treatment can either be home remedies or medications in severe cases. Various ways to cure sunburn blisters are as follows:

 

  • You must try to keep your skin cool and moist at all times of the day. It is advised to take cold showers periodically. Add a pinch of baking soda in your bathing water and also use a cold compress by dipping a sponge or cloth in cold water and placing it against the sunburn afflicted regions of body.
  • You can also apply aloe Vera gel to get rid of sunburn blisters. It helps in reducing pain, rehydrating the blistered areas, and also enhances the pace of healing process.
  • It is a must to drink plenty of water.
  • You may also use a lettuce poultice to treat sunburn blisters. Heat a small saucepan of water on high heat until it starts to boil. Lower the heat and add a handful of lettuce leaves to it. Once the water comes to the boil again, take the saucepan off the heat and set it aside to cool. Blend the leaves along with the water and refrigerate the pulp for 20 minutes before using it.
  • Calamine powder with rose water or cucumber juice is another easy-to-make home remedy for sunburn relieve.
  • Raw potatoes are also effective in curing sunburn. All you have to do is to take raw potatoes and grind it. Apply the potato extract on the afflicted areas.
  • You may also make a paste of barley, turmeric, and yogurt to cure the ailment.
  • You must not use petroleum jelly or butter to cure sunburn.

Sunburn may sometimes be severe and as such, it is advisable to consult a doctor.
