As you step into your teens, you will be amazed and confused at the same time at the way your body goes through a sea of change. You are no more a little bubbly girl with pigtails, but an adolescent slowly entering adulthood. These changes needn’t trouble you as you are growing to be a beautiful woman.

Nevertheless, you find pimples popping up to mess up your otherwise smooth skin.

What are pimples? Pimples are a skin condition caused by the changes in the skin structure consisting of hair follicles and its associated sebaceous glands. It is called Acne vulgaris in scientific terms. They can be inflammatory or non inflammatory. They are referred to as pimples, blemishes, spots, zits, or acne.

What is happening? There is an excess of keratin, a protein found in the skin, causing the dead cells to bond together. This blocks the hair follicle leading to a pimple. The black heads you see are dead cells blocking the pores of your skin and not dirt as assumed by many.
What are the causes? The causes could be many for skin problems like this. Some develop acne due to family or genetic history. A family history of acne may explain their early occurrence. Hormonal activities such as the menstrual cycle and puberty can cause an increase in the male hormone androgen, thereby affecting the secretion of sebum. Bacteria in the pore could be another reason.

How can I cure pimples? There are lots of skin care tips that you can follow. You can mix oatmeal with yogurt into a thick paste and apply it on the face and let it dry. Wash off with lukewarm water. You may squeeze a lemon onto a teaspoon of honey for cleansing the skin. Apply a pack made by boiling raspberry, strawberry, or blackberry leaves for three minutes. Apply a paste of fenugreek leaves and leave it overnight and wash with warm water in the morning. Orange peel and aloe vera are good remedies too. Gram flour with milk or yogurt and turmeric in mint water are excellent remedies as well. A paste of roasted and powered pomegranate skin with fresh lime juice is yet another valuable skin care treatment.

In addition, you can try to steam your face for ten minutes and pat it dry. You can also add a few neem and basil leaves. This will clear the pores and make you feel fresh. Neem is an excellent antiseptic and basil leaves will purify the pores. You can eat a few basil leaves every day to cleanse your body of toxins. You may also apply sandalwood paste on your face. This will enhance smooth and glowing skin.

Do I need to follow a diet? Increase your intake of vegetables, fruits, and nuts, as they are rich in vitamins and minerals. Avoid oily and heavy foods with high fat and cholesterol levels. These can increase hormone production. Most importantly, do not pop your pimples or squeeze them as this can leave a permanent scar. These simple home remedies will clear your pimple marks and leave you with a smooth and radiant face.
