Dry skin refers to the condition of the skin where the skin has a dry look because of its inability to retain moisture.  It is a main problem during the winter months when humidity is less.  This condition is worsened by wind, extremes of temperature and air conditioning.  But most of all dryness results from a lack of water in the skin.  It has been suggested that drinking eight glasses of water a day keeps the dermatologist away.  This is a myth and this home remedy for dry skin has been proven false.  Doctors contend that of you are normally hydrated your dry skin does not get the benefits of water by drinking it.  The best thing to do is soak your skin in the water.  Bathe in lukewarm water for fifteen minutes more or less.  Bathing everyday is not for dry skin.  Bathe less and in cooler water.

After a bath, the next logical thing to do is to apply moisturizer all over the body.  Moisturizer is equally significant since it is what holds the water in.  Just make sure that application of moisturizer is unto skin that’s not totally dried up by towel.  While the skin is still damp, moisturizer can be applied to it.  This way a little water in the skin is trapped to hold off dryness.  But apart from this home remedy for dry skin, the use of oatmeal has been discovered nearly 4,000 years ago.  People believed that its skin soothing effect relieves skin itching and other skin irritations.  Colloidal oatmeal can be used as a soap substitute.  Because some soaps have lye in them which could be considered an irritant for dry skin.  Though there are soaps of popular brands like Neutrogena and Dove, which can be considered to counterbalance skin dryness.  Most soaps however should not be used frequently, because frequent washing can also cause dryness of the skin.
