As we grow old our skin becomes thinner. Dry and thin skin undergoes the process of aging faster than the healthy skin. Young and healthy skin renews itself within three to four weeks while the older skin takes six to eight weeks. The thin skin loses more moisture due to the aging process and appears more dry and dehydrated. The causes of aging of thin skin are similar to the normal skin. There are two types of aging intrinsic and extrinsic. The intrinsic causes are collagen production is low, the elastin loses its springiness and the dead cells do not shed away quickly. The extrinsic factors are the sun, facial expressions, gravity, sleeping positions and smoking. The symptoms of thin skin aging are the same as normal skin. Fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, thin and transparent skin, hair loss, gray hair, unwanted hair, dry skin, etc. are some of them. To prevent aging one should avoid tanning, stay out of the sun when the sun rays are the strongest, wear sun protective gear and sunscreen lotions. To treat the aged skin there are many treatments available in the market in the form of creams, lotions, injections, antibiotics, ayurvedic medicines, etc. which suit all skin type.
