Lemon juice to reduce pigmentation

Is fresh lemon juice bad for brown pigmentation on my face if I use it as a toner? Do I leave it on or wash it off? I've seen on the net that its really bad especially if you go into the sun?

Lemon juice is not necessarily bad for your skin if used as a toner. However, it tends to be a little harsh, and is therefore not advisable if you have delicate skin or are suffering from certain skin problems such as dry skin. Even for normal, healthy skin, combining lemon juice with other household ingredients can make for a safer and more effective treatment. Regarding exposure to sunlight, it is indeed often said that going out into sunlight with lemon juice on your skin can cause dark spots to appear. This seems to be true, however even apart from this fact, you should not leave the lemon juice on your skin indefinitely. The ideal period of time for which you should leave the toner on your skin is fifteen minutes to half an hour, after which you should certainly wash it off.

It is not clear whether by "brown pigmentation" you are referring to a simple tan or to dark spots on your face - freckles, age spots, or some other such problem. A tan is nothing to be worried about and does not need treatment. If you want to get rid of a tan, you only need to avoid exposing your skin to too much sun. Your skin will then naturally but gradually return to its natural color. Freckles and age spots also occur as a result of excessive exposure to sunlight, but these are in a sense malfunctioning of the skin's mechanism to produce the protective pigment. Instead of producing pigment evenly, the skin produces spots of pigment, while the rest of the skin stays pale. Although this is also not really harmful, most people do not like the appearance of age spots and freckles or other blemishes on the face and want to get rid of them. However, here too the best solution is to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight. There are some home remedies that can speed up the fading of these spots, but minimizing exposure to sunlight is the safest and most effective remedy.

Toners are thought to help fade dark spots on the skin, and if you wish to use a toner, plain chamomile tea is quite effective. You can also mix fresh apple juice with honey and use this as a toner. If you want to use lemon juice too, you can combine it with honey in order to dilute it but at the same time make it more effective.
