It is important to use a moisturizer on a daily basis. Most people are under the impression that a moisturizer adds moisture to their skin. Moisturizers' form a barrier between your skin and the environment and so moisture trapped in your skin cannot evaporate. This is why it is best to use a moisturizer just after your bath when the skin's moisture level is at its highest.
The best skin moisturizer is actually virgin unprocessed coconut oil. This oil is rich in antioxidants and nutrients. In addition to moisturizing, it also helps to reduce scars and diminish blemishes. However, this oil has a very strong smell and so it is rarely used as a moisturizer. You can use processed coconut oil instead. Although it does not have the same nutritional value as unprocessed coconut oil, it does not have as strong a smell either.
When buying a moisturizer, make sure that you do not choose one just because it has a natural fragrance. These so called natural fragrances are due to added chemical fragrances that smell good but irritate your skin. If you have dry skin you should opt for a cream and if you have either normal or dry skin you should buy a lotion.
