An increase in air pollution means that now you have more chemicals being absorbed by your skin every time you leave your house. These pollutants increase the amount of free radicals in your body. Free radicals reduce skin elasticity and hasten the aging process. Eating foods that are high in anti-oxidants helps to combat the effects of free radials as they drastically impair their formation.
Make sure that you use a moisturizer daily. A moisturizer not only helps to lock moisture into the skin but also helps to keep harmful chemicals and pollutant particles from being absorbed by the skin. Use a sunscreen lotion whenever you leave the house to protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Avoid traveling during peak hours as this is when pollution levels are at their highest, and whenever possible travel by train.
Follow a daily skin care regimen to keep your skin clean and healthy. Make sure that you wash your face with warm water at least twice a day. Warm water helps to dissolve oil and grime and leaves the skin completely clean and fresh. Use natural products like fruits and vegetables in your face masks. Foods like bananas, carrots, egg yolk and honey help to replenish lost nutrients.
