Information On Hair Perming
Today there are a variety of methods to perm hair, and the time taken to complete the process varies depending upon the method used. The quickest method is probably one that uses chemicals such as sodium thioglycolate, and not heat.
The hair is curled on rods, after which the chemical is applied to it to break the chemical bonds that give the hair its structure. Next, the hair is rinsed, and a second chemical is applied to it, this time to form the chemical bonds once again while the hair is curled around the rods, thus leaving the hair permanently curled.
With this method, the whole process can be performed within half an hour. Note that this is the time taken for the actual process itself — after that, it takes about a whole day for the hair to settle into its permanent permed look.
This method is however a bit harsh on the hair, and therefore some people, particularly those with already delicate or weak hair, prefer to use a different, more gentle method, involving glycerol monothioglycolate and heat. The way this works is similar, except that it takes a little longer and also requires the application of heat. There are other methods as well, using different chemicals, and taking different amounts of time.
