Manage fuzzy hair

Been buzzing my hair for 10 years, every time I grow it out it drives me crazy and gets fuzzy standing straight up. If I use gel I have to use a lot and it looks like a big ball of goop landed on my head. Any suggestions besides hats?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by buzzing your hair - do you mean you have had a buzz cut all this time? If this is the case, then you are bound to have trouble growing your hair. This has nothing to do with your hair having gotten thicker or curlier, although some people believe that shaving your head or cutting your hair too close to the skull will make the hair grow thicker. It is just that from that length, of a few millimeters, your hair will take a while to reach a manageable length. When it's growing out is always when it looks its worst, unless you have an unusually good hairdresser. This is something you will have to accept, and be patient with. If you can, you should find a hairdresser who will trim your hair as necessary as it grows. But if not, you will just have to let it look a bit odd for a month or so. Since you seem to have fuzzy hair, growing it out will probably be a lot more difficult than for most people. In addition, you will need some time to get used to longer hair - after being used to a buzz cut, where it is pretty much impossible to have a bad hair day, you will naturally find longer hair unmanageable, as it almost always seems to stick out the wrong way.

Avoid using gel, as it will only be a temporary and self perpetuation solution. In any case, it does not seem to be helping. More importantly, it will dry your hair and make it even frizzier. Instead, you should use suitable oil, shampoo, and conditioner, and possibly a special serum or other product meant to make frizzy hair more manageable. You should use either olive oil or coconut oil - apply the oil every night, massaging it into your scalp. Leave the oil on your head overnight, and in the morning, wash it off with a suitable shampoo. After rinsing off the shampoo, apply the conditioner and leave it on for at least two minutes. Finally, apply the serum or whatever other product, while your hair is drying (or as per the product instructions). Note that this will not change your hair type. If you have tight, frizzy curls, there is nothing you can do about them. But these hair care measures will make your hair much more manageable.
