From your description it is not entirely clear whether the skin of your lip itself has changed color or whether you are referring to the area above your lip (immediately below your nose). Whatever the case may be though, it would be a good idea to visit a skin specialist for a diagnosis.

Your description also seems to indicate that a rather large area of skin has turned white. Often people develop white spots on their lips, or in and around the mouth. The causes of such white spots are different from the causes of a patch of white skin. A patch would most probably indicate the start of leukoderma. This is a condition in which the skin stops producing the pigment melanin, and as a result loses its color. The main symptom is the appearance of white spots on the skin, and these spots gradually spread. Leukoderma is a rather harmless condition, but tends to be quite difficult for the sufferer due to the change in their appearance. However, there is no need for you to panic - leukoderma usually starts at the extremities. The fingers and toes are most commonly affected, and the white patches spread to other parts of the body only much later. (In many cases, the patches do not spread at all, and in some, the white patches may actually shrink with time.) Since you have not mentioned any change in skin color on your fingers or any other part of your body, I assume that your upper lip is the only part that has been affected. It is therefore not very likely that you are suffering from leukoderma. This cannot be ruled out however, so you should consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis.

The white patch that you have could also be due to some kind of fungal infection. This too is unlikely to only affect your lip, but it is possible. Fungal infections can be quite difficult to treat, and it is therefore not advisable to spend time experimenting with home remedies. Vinegar and tea tree oil are sometimes effective in fighting fungal infections, and if you want, you can try either of these remedies. However, since you will need to apply these substances to your lips, you should be a little careful. Tea tree oil in particular can be quite strong, and there is a chance that it will irritate your lip.
