Skin type is dictated by genes, but other factors also play a role in the type of skin you have. Hormonal changes during adolescence play a big role in problems of oily skin amongst young people. Women also notice the change in the skin towards a more oily texture during menstruation, because of the hormonal shifts during the period. This happens because of the increased production of the male hormone androgen. Oily skin is a big complaint amongst many people, especially teenagers and women. While oily skin does tend to be troublesome, leading to increased acne amongst other problems, it can also be a blessing in disguise. In the long run, people with oily skin tend to develop wrinkles much later in life. Yet if you find your skin excessively oily, there are some simple methods to take care of your skin.

If you have oily skin, remember to keep your face as clean as possible, washing it at least twice a day. Avoid using harsh detergent based soaps; opt for mild glycerin based soaps which do not affect your skin adversely. You can even splash your face three to four times a day with cold water and blot it using a tissue paper. You should also wipe your face with a ball of cotton or a tissue paper soaked in astringent. This helps to reduce the greasiness of the skin. Alternately you can wipe your skin at regular intervals using a simple tissue paper to blot out the excessive greasiness. You can scrub your face clean using a home made face scrub prepared with ground almond and honey. Alternately you can prepare a face scrub with Aloe Vera gel and oatmeal. You should gently rub your skin with this scrub and leave it on your face, washing it off after 20 minutes. In addition to this, you should regularly apply a face pack of fuller's earth and rose water on your face. This helps to reduce the oiliness, prevent acne and make your skin glow with health. If you are prone to oily skin, you should avoid using moisturisers since your skin is already excreting enough oil. A light based sun screen formula is all you need when you are stepping out. Instead of heavy moisturisers, you should use Aloe Vera gel which you can rub into your skin twice a day, especially after washing it. The Aloe Vera not only soaks in the excessive oil, it also naturally moisturises your skin giving it a fresh and youthful appearance.
