Many people like to color their hair, especially when it starts graying to cover the white hair. It has also become extremely fashionable to color one's hair or streak it with a lighter color for a change in appearance. Hair coloring may be trendy and popular but in the long run it can damage your hair. It is extremely important to apply the hair color properly since incorrect application and prolonged exposure to the hair color can affect the hair adversely, making it dull and lifeless. Hair colors are usually chemical based and they can have an abrasive and damaging effect on your hair if used very often. They can also lead to allergic reactions, irritating the scalp, loss and breakage of hair.

In order to minimize the hair damage from using hair colors, you should take good care of your hair, using mild hair products to wash and condition your hair and protecting it from the harmful effects of the sun, wind and pollution. You should regularly massage your scalp with coconut oil to increase circulation of blood in your scalp and improve the health of your hair. This will also prevent your hair from drying excessively. You can also use some of these simple home remedies to treat your damaged hair. You can apply a mix of eggs and honey on your hair and wash it off after around 10 to 15 minutes. You can make a good hair pack to restore your hair's natural bounce and shine using eggs. First whisk the egg whites, and then add the egg yolks which have been blended in a mixer with some warm water. Massage this into your hair and then rinse it off with cold water. You can also apply mayonnaise on your hair and cover it with a shower cap, leaving it over night and wash it off the next morning. This restores the natural shine to your hair, giving it a healthy bounce. Vinegar is also excellent for repairing hair damaged by excessive and incorrect coloring. It can be used as a conditioner by adding 1 tbsp of vinegar to your bath water and use it to rinse your hair after shampooing it. This will make your hair appear lustrous and shiny. Alternately you can massage your scalp with undiluted vinegar twice or thrice a week to restore the natural sheen to your hair. You can also keep some apple cider vinegar and water in the proportion of 1:4 in a spray bottle and spray it into your hair around half an hour before you wash it.
