In order to deal with the annoying and recurrent problem of dark underarms, you can begin by understanding what exactly makes this happen. Your underarms are constantly in a state of dampness and dark. Accompanied with this, they are always exposed to some quantities of uric acid and salt, particularly if they sweat a lot. Over a period of time, this leads to darkening as well as toughening of the skin. In order to prevent this from happening, you can take some easy steps. The first is to ensure that you try not to remain damp and sweaty in this area. You can start using a mild talcum powder for this. Talcum powder will absorb sweat and help to keep your underarms dry. It is better to use talcum powder, rather than corn starch based powder. The reason for this is that corn starch based powder may cause some element of discomfort, as it is somewhat granular in nature. Also, talc is more absorbent. Try to use baby powder as this is usually hypo allergenic in nature. You do not want to get saddled with allergies on top of everything else. Try to apply talcum powder about thrice a day for best results.
Switch to using only cotton clothing. This will automatically control perspiration, as opposed to synthetic clothes and materials. Cotton is absorbent in nature and is also porous. It will keep your skin dry in a two fold way - it will help by absorbing moisture and will also allow sufficient air circulation to help keep you dry. Each morning before a bath, you should apply fresh and unflavored yogurt to your underarms and leave it there for about 15 to 20 minutes. This will help to lighten the darkness, as yogurt can help by bleaching your skin. You can simply wash it off while bathing. Another good remedial measure is to exfoliate your underarms regularly. This will remove the surface layer of dead skin and help to keep the skin color lighter. You should use an exfoliating agent meant for oily skin. If you use one for dry skin, it may have oil or cream in it. Generally, products that have oil or cream in it will tend to leave moisture causing creaminess behind on your skin, thus causing you to sweat more. Try to exfoliate at least twice a week. Thrice would be idea, but any less than twice will not show results.
