It is not always possible to regrow hair. If you have lost hair due to some health problems, such as a fungal infection of the scalp, a disturbance in hormone levels caused by a thyroid gland problem, or even as a side effect of treatment for some other medical condition, then it is usually possible to regrow hair. There isn't really any special treatment that you can use on your hair to make it grow, but if the cause of the hair loss is addressed, then your hair will start to grow back normally. For example, with a fungal infection you would most likely lose hair in patches, and as soon as the treatment is effective and the fungus is eliminated, your hair would grow back normally. With a thyroid problem, hair would start to grow normally once the levels of thyroid hormone have been stabilized, either by taking supplements if you have hypothyroidism, or by limiting thyroid production through medication or surgery in the case of hyperthyroidism. If your treatment itself is causing hair loss, then you may need to switch to a substitute or just wait till the treatment is finished, and the hair loss will then stop. In such cases, a few simple measures and home remedies may help the hair growth along. These include basic hair care such as oiling (there is no special oil, but coconut oil is thought to be the best), shampooing, and conditioning, as well as ensuring that you have a healthy, balanced, well rounded diet. You should also be gentle with your hair when combing or drying it, and trim it regularly so as to avoid split ends. Keep your hair covered when you are outdoors, especially in strong winds and harsh sunlight.

However, if you are simply losing hair as a result of the aging process, then there is no oil or home remedy that will make your hair grow back. There are a few medical treatments today that are reasonably successful, but these will require personal consultation with a professional. Each case is different, and your doctor will need to figure out what will work for you. Treatments such as finasteride and minoxidil seem to be quite successful in at least stopping hair loss, and are sometimes even able to regrow hair. There are also minor surgical procedures such as hair transplantation, which are expensive but very effective, and have been nearly perfected today.
