The kind of skin type you have is dictated by hereditary factors, other factors can also affect the skin, making it darker, oilier and prone to blemishes and black heads. If you have dark, oily skin you can resort to simple home remedies to improve the texture and tone of your skin. An excellent face scrub can be prepared using honey and ground almonds. You can use this to gently scrub your face, getting rid of the excess oil on the surface of your skin and the dead skin cells. Cornstarch is used to make an effective face-pack for reducing the oiliness of the skin. You can mix cornstarch with water to make a paste which should be applied on the face and later washed off using tepid water. Daily application of a mix of lemon juice and water which is rinsed off with cold water after 15 minutes is beneficial for improving the tone and texture of your skin. Alternately you can mix cucumber juice and lime juice in equal proportions and use this to wipe your skin before you shower. This not only acts as natural bleach it also removes the excess oil secreted by the skin and leaves the skin looking fresh.

Blackheads are usually common in people with oily skin and blocked skin pores because they do not follow a proper skin cleansing regime. It is this extremely important to keep your skin squeaky clean by washing it at least twice a day using anti-bacterial glycerin soap. You can spray your face with salt-water several times a day and pat it dry using a tissue paper. This helps to absorb the excess oil secretion keeping your face fresh. A good way to scrub your face is by adding ½ tsp of baking soda into your face wash. You can use this to gently scrub the affected areas such as the nose, forehead and chin. This will get rid of the oiliness of the skin as well as the blackheads on your nose. You can also use rice flour to scrub your nose or make a paste with rice flour and curd which you can apply on your nose and wash off with cold water once it's dry. Yet another effective home remedy for blackheads is application of a paste of 1 tsp powdered cinnamon and 1 tsp lemon juice on the nose before going to bed. You can wash this off when you get up to find a nose with fewer blackheads.
