The type of skin and thus the size of your skin pores are decided by genetic factors and passed on from generation to generation. People with oily skin and excessive production of sebum tend to have big pores that are often open. It is important to keep these pores closed and try and reduce their size in order to make the skin seem less oily and also to avoid other skin conditions. Large pores tend to accumulate oil and dirt and this leads to other problems such as pimples and blackheads. It is thus extremely important to regularly cleanse and scrub your skin, getting regular facials done to keep your skin clean and your pores closed. There are several reputed products in the market which help to keep the skin pores clean and reduce the size of the pores, but you can save your money and use simple home remedies to make the pores on your face smaller.

Tomato is an excellent toner for the skin and you can apply the juice of tomato or the pulp of a tomato on the face and leave it for 15 to 20 minutes before washing it off. Alternately you can mix tomato juice with sandalwood powder to make an effective face-pack to control the oiliness of your skin and tighten the pores. Similarly the juice of the pulp of a mashed papaya can be applied on the face and washed off after some time to tone the skin and close the pores. Other fruits with a similar astringent quality that tightens the pores include pineapple and peaches. Apart from these fruit packs, you can also use an egg pack to tighten the pores of your facial skin. You can either apply the white of an egg on your face to improve your complexion and tone your skin or a whip the yolk of an egg with a few drops of lemon juice to tighten the skin's pores and tone the skin. Honey is also excellent for removing the excessive oiliness of the skin and also to tone the pores on the facial skin. You can add some honey to your fruit packs or simply apply a mix of honey and lemon juice directly on your face. Lemon however is avoidable in case you have any acne. Another good face-pack that helps to make the pores on the face smaller is made with ground oatmeal with some lemon juice, rose water and curd which can be applied to the skin and washed off once it's dry. The oatmeal can also be substituted with gram flour. Apart from this remember to remove your make-up before you sleep since make-up tends to increase the size of the pores and does not allow the skin to breathe.
