Hereditary factors control the kind of hair one has and this can not really be changed. However external factors can adversely affect your hair and this can be reversed by taking good care of your hair. The problem of hair fall is related to the overall health of the hair and body of the person, harsh chemical hair-care products, excessive exposure to the sun, wind and dust, consumption of certain medication, hormonal imbalances and certain medical conditions. Dandruff is caused due to lack of hygiene, dry skin and even nutritional deficiencies. In order to have a healthy mane of hair that shines luxuriously, you should maintain a healthy, balanced diet that is rich in Vitamins and essential nutrients. It is equally important to drink plenty of water and fresh fruit juices to keep the body and hair well hydrated. Emotional stress, anxiety and depression can also lead to the problem of dandruff and hair fall. Thus you should try and lead a relatively stress-free lifestyle and get adequate exercise and rest.

In order to treat hair fall and dandruff naturally using simple home remedies, you should stop using all harsh chemical hair-care products and avoid all chemical treatments for your hair. Regularly massaging your scalp with warm oil before you wash your hair is beneficial for strengthening the hair follicles, reducing hair fall and preventing dryness of the scalp and thus dandruff. You can also massage your scalp with a mix of mustard oil, lemon and curd to reduce hair fall and prevent dandruff. You can also boil a few pieces of Indian Gooseberry in coconut oil till the oil turns black and use this to regularly massage your scalp. This helps prevent dandruff and strengthens your hair follicles, reducing hair fall. Massaging your scalp with a mix of Indian gooseberry, curd and lemon also helps to treat dandruff. You can apply a paste of green gram flour and curd to your scalp around an hour before you wash your hair to treat dandruff problems. Alternately you can soak some fenugreek seeds in water overnight, grind it to a paste the next morning and apply it to your scalp for an hour before washing it off with soap-nut or your regular shampoo. You should always opt for mild shampoos with a natural base and natural conditioners for your hair. Shampoos with lemon or lavender extract are beneficial for improving the hair quality and reducing dandruff. Rinsing your hair with lemon juice or vinegar diluted in water is an excellent way to condition your hair and treat dandruff; however you must ensure that it is rinsed out properly to avoid premature graying.
