Pimples are a very common problem, and unfortunately there is no quick or simple way to get rid of them. In fact, for teenagers, the pimple problem often lasts for several years, and they only find relief when they reach the age of around 22 years. This is because pimples are somehow related to hormone levels in the body, and during adolescence, the hormone levels are naturally fluctuating. Modern treatments are however effective in some cases, and if used consistently and regularly, pimples can slowly be eliminated.

Pimples basically are the result of blocked skin pores. Our skin is constantly growing and dying, and the older, dead skin cells are constantly being discarded while new cells are produced and come to the surface. For a variety of reasons, including the one mentioned, this process is sometimes not particularly efficient, and dead skin cells accumulate on the skin's surface. These dead cells tend to block skin pores, and as a result the sebum that is produced by the glands under the skin starts to build up. Bacteria that are normally present on the skin's surface without causing any problems also start to attack the accumulated sebum, and this is essentially how a pimple forms.

The main aim in treating pimples is therefore to ensure that the skin properly discards dead skin cells, while also reducing the chances of bacteria infecting the blocked pores. While there are many home remedies for pimples, and some of them are in fact effective, they are not as reliable or consistent in their results as commercially available anti pimple creams. Earlier of course anti pimple creams used to be as unreliable, and some of these creams are still available. However, if you use a cream that contains salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, you can be almost certain to achieve some positive results.

As mentioned before, the treatment needs to be consistent and regular - you must apply the cream daily, and in most cases at least twice a day. You will not see quick results - it will take at least a month, and possibly several months for any improvement to begin, but in the meanwhile you should continue the treatment diligently. In addition, you should wash your face several times a day, preferably with plain water, or with a cleanser instead of soap. Soap tends to dry out the skin, and may thus encourage your skin to produce more oil as compensation, thus worsening and complicating your problem.
