Varicose eczema is an uncommon problem which may also be faced by people who are suffering from varicose veins. Most commonly, varicose eczema manifests in terms of red, patchy and flaky skin around the ankles. In extremely rare cases, the skin also has a tendency to bunch up. But before you make a visual diagnosis about this condition, it is always good to know a few things about it. To begin with, you should be aware that varicose eczema generally tends to affect people only around middle or late age. It is really extremely rare for this problem to strike in young people. There are a variety of reasons for this. The first is that even though a person may develop varicose veins at a young age, the natural tendency of the skin is to produce a certain amount of oil or its own. This natural tendency does not really go away even though eczema may develop as well. The second thing is that at a younger age, people tend to be more active. Varicose eczema has a tendency to affect people who are not as active. Poor circulation is a major cause of varicose eczema.

Another typical sign of varicose eczema is that it will tend to scratch only in the beginning. Unlike regular eczema, it will not be a constant exercise in scratching. If you are indeed suffering from this problem, your solution is basically to keep your feet elevated as much as possible. This will be of maximum assistance in keeping the swelling down and will also help with the varicose condition of the veins. Since varicose veins will always be accompanied with a great amount of swelling, you should try to keep it down in whatever ways you can find. The only other thing you can do for the itching and scratching will be to apply cooling creams to it. One of the best products to use is a paste of sandalwood powder and rose water. This will help to cool the area. You can also use calamine lotion for the same purpose. This will also be of great assistance with the constant itching. Another excellent product to use is olive oil. This will also impart the all important hydration that your skin, which is starved of moisture, needs. You can try to use these creams for a week or two. If you do not see results, you need to go to a doctor for something stronger.
