Pores are actually not a skin problem - they are natural structures that are present on the skin, and are essential to its proper function. Pores allow the sebum from the sebaceous glands under the skin to reach the skin's surface. Sebum is an oily substance that covers our skin, lubricating it and keeping it moist. In addition, as you know, sweat is also released through our pores, from the sweat glands below the skin's surface.

It is only when pores become enlarged that they become a problem. Usually, we don't even notice the pores on our skin till they become enlarged, which is why it is assumed that the existence of the pores is itself the problem. It is usually not possible to shrink pores, as this problem is just another aspect of aging. However, proper maintenance of the skin can help make the pores less prominent - a large part of the problem is that the pores appear larger than they actually are due to dryness, excessive oiliness, or accumulation of sebum and dirt.

Regular facials, including steaming and exfoliation are very important for handling enlarged pores. To begin, you need to clean your skin - this can be done by simply washing your face thoroughly with soap or with a face wash. Next comes exfoliation, which helps get rid of the dead skin cells from the skin's surface. This allows smoother, clearer, new skin to come to the surface, and also prevents blockage of pores by the dead cells, which makes the pores more prominent and also leads to the development of whiteheads. There are several home remedies that you can use for exfoliation, including an oatmeal and milk scrub, a salt and honey scrub, and a rice flour and yogurt scrub. After mixing the ingredients, you need to gently massage them into your skin, avoiding the area under your eyes. Next, steam your skin - this is quite a simple procedure, and all you need to do is lean over a basin of steaming water for five minutes, with a towel over your head. After this, you can apply a face mask for around 15 minutes, and then wash it off with plain water. For this, you can use either a mix of honey and egg yolk (for dry skin) or honey and lemon juice (for oily skin). At the end of this, simply splash your face with cool rose water.
