Dark circles under the eyes are a very common complaint amongst many people. There are several reason for these dark circles shadowing your eyes, the most common one being exhaustion and lack of sleep. However dark circles around the eyes can also be caused by age, nutritional deficiencies, hyper pigmentation, side effect of the use of certain medications and simply by tanning under the sun! Luckily there are several simple techniques you can follow to treat dark circles naturally and without undue expenditure. Over a period of time you will notice that the circles have become lighter and faded away.

The most important thing in treating dark eye circles is following a healthy and balanced diet which is rich in all the essential nutrients. Vitamin C and iron work together to lighten the dark circles and can be found in red and yellow peppers as well as skinless chicken. Vitamin K is also beneficial for dark eye circles. You can either increase your consumption of Vitamin K in your diet or invest in creams and cosmetic products enriched with Vitamin K. Regular use of these products is said to have a positive effect on the dark circles around the eyes. It is equally important to get the recommended amount of water and liquids in your daily diet and a minimum of 6 to 8 hours of sleep daily. Apart from this, there are simple home remedies which you can use to treat dark eye circles. In addition to the popular remedy of placing cold, used tea-bags on your eyes, you can also place slices of cucumber or potato on your closed eyes for approximately 20 minutes and then wash your face with some warm water and apply a good face cream to moisturise the area around your eyes. The cucumber helps to cool down the eyes and relieve the tension while the potato acts as natural bleach. You can also mix the juice of cucumber with some lemon juice and apply it on the area around your eyes, washing it off after 15 to 20 minutes. Turmeric powder is beneficial for all skin problems and thus you can apply a paste of turmeric powder mixed with some lemon juice around your eyes and wash it off once it's dry. Almonds are also recommended for improving the skin tone and rejuvenating tired skin. You can thus massage the area around your eyes gently using some almond oil or apply a paste of crushed almonds and milk on the dark circles for around 10 minutes.
