Excessive hair fall can be caused by a number of factors, and it is not possible to determine the reason without properly investigating each case. In many cases, hair fall is simply related to age, and like most age related problems, is mostly beyond our control. This is often the case with men over the age of 30, for whom balding is genetic, and for the most part irreversible.

Sometimes excessive hair fall can also be due to the type of water you use to wash your hair. Hard water is known to increase the amount of hair fall, and this is usually a lot more noticeable if you have recently moved to a city where the water is hard. Fortunately, this type of hair loss is usually nothing to worry about. Although it is a bit more than normal, it does not really affect the hair very much. There is no chance of you becoming bald, or even close, due to washing your hair with hard water. If you want, you can try using a shampoo and a conditioner that are meant specifically for use with hard water. Such products are quite easily available today, at general stores, or else at a chemist.

Sometimes hair loss may simply be due to poor hair care. For many people, hair care involves only regular shampooing and combing. In some cases this may be enough, but it is usually necessary to take more care of your hair, especially if it is exposed to harsh conditions. It is usually advisable to oil your hair regularly, preferably with coconut oil, or else with olive oil. Using warm oil is supposed to be more effective, as it helps the oil to penetrate the hair shaft. You should ideally oil your hair before going to bed, and then wash off the oil in the morning. Apart from this, occasional conditioning with mixtures prepared at home should also be useful. A good home made conditioner can be prepared by mixing egg yolk with honey. If you have oily hair, you can add lemon juice to this mixture. This kind of conditioning should of course be done just before washing your hair, whereas if you use commercially available conditioners, they need to be applied after you have shampooed and rinsed your hair.

Apart from these measures, the only things necessary are a varied, balanced diet, and plenty of rest. If in spite of this, you are still losing too much hair, you need to see a specialist.
