You have not mentioned exactly what you have tried, so pinpointing the problem will be a little bit difficult. In any case, skin problems such as yours are difficult to diagnose without actually examining the skin. The obvious solution for dry skin is usually to moisturize it, but this is something you have quite certainly already tried. However, if you have been using a thin moisturizing lotion, you should try using a thicker moisturizer, such as a cream, instead. Moisturizing should also be done soon after washing, as this is when the skin has already absorbed a lot of moisture; the lotion or cream thus works better, as it is able to trap the moisture that is already in the skin.

This brings us to one common cause of dryness - soap. You should try changing your soap, or if possible simply avoiding soap when you wash your face. Soap tends to dry the skin, and the skin of the face is particularly delicate and susceptible to such problems. If you think your soap may be too harsh, you should switch to a milder soap or a glycerin based soap, and if this does not help, or if you are already using a mild soaps, you should simply reduce the frequency of usage. If this ameliorates the problem, then you have identified the cause, and the solution is quite simple - either use a mild soap that suits your skin, or else use a substitute, such as a face wash.

You can try using aloe vera gel on the affected area of skin. Fresh gel, taken directly from the plant, is usually preferred, but you can also use commercially available, packaged gel. This will soothe and moisturize your skin to some extent.

You have not mentioned exactly how long the dryness and flaking has already been troubling you, but if it is for no longer than a week, then it may be a temporary problem that will disappear on its own, or with the measures already described. In the meanwhile, you should of course avoid using unnecessary products on the affected skin, especially make up.

However, it is also possible that you have developed a skin condition such as eczema, so you should visit a doctor if the problem continues for longer than a couple of weeks more. This could also be a sign of psoriasis, especially if the skin is inflamed.
