In order to control pain of any kind, there are some easy methods you can follow at home. The injury you have described sounds quite serious. You should preferably go to a doctor and eliminate the possibility of any part of your finger nail having entered the skin underneath. If this happens, then there are chances that you may suffer from infection. This is quite common when there is any foreign object that manages to penetrate your skin and remains trapped there. If your fingernail is smashed, then you should be aware that this could happen to you as well.

For immediate relief from the pain, you can dip your finger in a cup of ice cubes. This will numb your finger and take away the pain momentarily. Numbing your fingers will also bring down any swelling you may have incurred while getting injured. Ice is highly effective in reducing swelling. Once your pain is under control somewhat, you can start taking measures to get rid of it altogether. Applying a paste made with turmeric powder and clarified butter will help to reduce the swelling as well as get rid of the pain. This method will also help to heal any surface injuries. If the solution touches the inside of your injured finger nail, then it will also help to heal it quickly. Turmeric has anti septic properties as well, so you will also eliminate your own chances of suffering from an infection of any kind. You can also make a paste with Fuller’s Earth and plain water and apply this to your injured finger. Try to make a thick paste and apply it thickly, so that it stays on for a while. You can leave this on for a while till it dries. Once it dries, it can merely be brushed off. This solution will help to bring down the swelling of your finger. Another excellent way to help with pain is to make a paste of plain chalk powder and rose water and apply this to your finger. This will not only bring down swelling, it will also control your pain and help considerably with the healing process. If possible, try to keep your finger elevated as much as possible. This will not allow too much blood to accumulate in the injured area, thus causing more pain in the process. Rest the finger as much as you can. This will help the most.
