Your skin color is almost entirely determined by your genes, so there are no real remedies for fairness. If you naturally have dark skin, nothing in the world will make you “fair”. To some extent, factors such as the state of your health and the amount of exposure to sunlight play a role in skin color, and your skin has darkened due to some such factors, there are things you can do to lighten your skin a bit. These however mainly consist of eliminating the factors that caused the darkening of the skin, and any creams or home remedies are temporary and will only speed up the lightening process that would happen naturally but take more time.
That said, regular application of natural products such as turmeric powder and sandalwood powder is said to lighten the skin, at least to some extent. What is a more likely explanation is that these treatments improve your complexion rather than lighten it. Looking good is not simply about being light skinned – what is important is the quality of your skin. If you have smooth, clear, glowing skin, it will look lovely whether it is dark or light. In any case, a good way to use turmeric powder and sandalwood powder is to mix them with honey or milk (or both), apply this mixture to your skin and leave it on for half an hour, after which you can wash it off with plain water. If you like you can splash your skin with rose water after this. You could also use rose water to substitute the honey or milk, if you prefer it for some reason. Diet is another factor that will help your skin look its best – a regular intake of a variety of fruits and vegetables is essential here, as is an adequate amount of water daily. As usual, exercise always goes along with any dietary recommendations – even a half hour daily walk will do if you are unable or un-inclined to handle any more than that.
Finally, the topic of walking brings us to protecting your skin from sunlight. Most people have a somewhat permanent sun tan on their face, neck, and arms, due to regular exposure to sunlight. If this tan bothers you, you should avoid going out during sunlight hours, especially when the sun is at its peak. If you must go out, make sure that you use a sunscreen lotion with a high SPF factor and in addition, cover yourself well.
