Freckles are genetic, and are, loosely speaking, simply an uneven tan. Freckles are basically spots of concentrated melanin that develop upon exposure to sunlight. In all people, exposure to sunlight causes the skin to create more melanin, the protective pigment that gives skin its color. (Of course, the more melanin there is, the darker the skin appears.) In most people, this creation of pigment, and therefore the darkening of skin, is even. In people with a genetic predisposition to freckles however, melanin is produced in concentrated spots. The more you are exposed to sunlight, the darker your freckles will become. As is probably obvious by now, the best way to get rid of freckles on face is to eliminate the exposure to sunlight, or to at least minimize it. Creams and other cosmetic treatments, such as laser treatment, are available, but these are only temporary solutions, and therefore not of much use in the treatment for freckles. Once you start exposing your skin to sunlight again, the freckles will soon reappear. In addition, some treatments for freckles have the risk of lightening the skin around the freckles, thus heightening the contrast.

The only sure way for freckles removal is to avoid going out into the sun whenever possible. This is particularly important around noon, when the sun is highest in the sky and its rays are strongest. If you must go out in the sun, the most effective way to protect your skin is to wear a hat and clothing that covers your arms and shoulders. You should also use sunscreen, but this should be a secondary layer of protection, as it is not as effective as actually blocking sunlight from reaching your skin. You might find all of this rather troublesome and frustrating, but if you are serious about freckles removal, these measures are essential. At the same time, it might be of some consolation to you to know that freckles do not usually last into adulthood. If you are in your teens or early twenties, it is quite likely that the problem will soon solve itself and the freckles will lighten. In the meanwhile, you should avoid the sun whenever you can. If you consistently follow these rules, the freckles should gradually disappear – of course you should remember that, as with a regular tan, this will take a long time. Lemon juice is one home remedy that is supposed to help lighten freckles. Simply apply the lemon juice to your face for around 15 minutes, and then wash it off. Make sure that you do not go out in the sun after this.
