Acne is one of the most common of all skin conditions and is particularly prevalent among adolescents. It is an inflammatory skin condition in which there are eruptions of pimples on the face, chest, back and other parts. This generally occurs when there is a blockage of the pores which is caused as a result of clogging with dead skin cells, oil and bacteria. The best way to treat the problem effectively and prevent severe acne scar formation is by attending to it promptly. Moreover the acne treatment is quite simple and does not require medical attention. There are a number of home remedies that you can use to treat the condition.

  • Benzoyl peroxide is the most effective treatment for acne and is easily available in a number of over the counter applications. It may however be harsh for certain skin types so in case of the slightest irritation discontinue usage of the product.
  • Make a paste with cinnamon powder and lemon juice and apply it to the area of skin that is afflicted with acne. Do this every day and there should be visible results within three weeks.
  • Garlic juice is regarded by some as one of the most effective acne home remedies and is believed to significantly reduce the risk o scarring.
  • You can also use groundnut oil and lemon juice to make a mixture that you can apply on and around the affected skin. This will also help with blackheads.
  • Apply a mixture of rose water and lime juice to the affected area and allow it to stay on for at least half an hour, after which you should wash your face well with lukewarm water.
  • You can add ground nutmeg to milk and apply it to the affected area.

Acne scars are of two types; pitted scars or pigmented scars. Pitted scars occur when there has been damage to any underlying skin tissue, while pigmented scars are the marks that remain after the acne itself clears up. As with the acne problem treatment for the scars too should begin promptly. If left to heal on their own this would generally take around twelve months and in severe cases the scars may be for life. Some of these home remedies for acne scars can help deal with the problem.

  • Sandalwood mixed with rosewater is an effective treatment for acne scars. Leave it overnight and wash it off the following morning.
  • Rubbing ice cubes on your face can help to tighten the pores.
  • Cut a tomato and rub or apply it on your skin.
  • Cucumber juice is useful as a toner.
