From your description, I think that the dry itchy spot that you have noticed could be a herald spot of Pityriasis Rosea. Although this condition is not contagious, it can be rather unsightly as the number of spots increases. Pityriasis Rosea is a minor and non recurrent skin condition that clears up without the need for treatment within 3 months. The true cause of Pityriasis Rosea is as yet unknown although it is sometimes brought on by certain medications. There is no treatment for this condition but calamine lotions help to relieve the itching. If the itching is intense, your doctor might prescribe antihistamine pills, a topical steroid cream or even steroid pills to ease your discomfort.

Dry and itchy skin spots are generally more of a problem in winter or in dry regions where there is less humidity. Dry and itchy red spot can also be a sign of psoriasis, but will generally not manifest in a single spot. Off course this could just be the beginning of an eruption. The red itchy spots on face could also be caused as a result of a reaction to some cosmetic that you may have recently used or an allergic reaction.

Follow a regular skin care regimen that includes a gentle exfoliator as well as a moisturizer. Do not use an alcohol based toner as this will cause excessive drying and will cause further irritation. In addition to this, there are a few general skin care practices that you should follow on a regular basis.

  • Do not have a hot water bath as this will rob your skin of its natural oils. Make it a point to gently pat your skin with a towel to remove water. This will leave your skin slightly moist and you can then use a moisturizer to lock in the moisture.

  • Change your pillow cases as often as possible and make sure that they are always clean and dust free.

  • When washing your pillow cases make sure that you not use detergents containing perfumes or fabric softeners as they often contain harsh chemicals. The residue that is left behind can cause further irritation to your skin.

  • Synthetics and similar fabrics may also irritate the skin so use cotton pillow cases.

You can use a broad spectrum anti fungal and antibacterial cream for a week or so and if you do not see a marked improvement in the dry and red itchy spot on your face then visit your dermatologist immediately.
