Tea tree oil is not really bad for your hair, but it is also unlikely to be very useful in stopping the hair loss, unless the hair loss is the result of a fungal infection. Tea tree oil is considered to be an anti bacterial and anti fungal agent, and is therefore used to treat a number of skin infections, including scalp infections that cause hair loss. If you have been diagnosed with a fungal infection or if you think that your hair loss may be due to a fungal infection, you can try applying a few drops of tea tree oil along with almond oil to your scalp daily. Normally, tea tree oil is very strong, and is capable of causing adverse skin reactions when used in its pure form. This is why regular use of tea tree oil is not recommended. Diluted tea tree oil is also available, and this would be a better option, but it is still not recommended that you use this for extended periods

However, there are several shampoos are commercially available with approximately 5 per cent content of tea tree oil, and this may be an equally effective yet safer option.

In any case, if the idea is to oil your hair, then there are much more suitable options available. Olive oil is very good for your hair, but coconut oil is probably the best. With tea tree oil, the anti fungal properties are the main benefit; it does not do much else for the hair. Coconut oil on the other hand contains various vitamins, fatty acids and trace nutrients that are essential for strong, healthy hair.

You should however note that simply oiling your hair will not stop hair loss. Fungal infections are also not always the cause of hair loss. In some cases, hair loss is simply genetic and hereditary, and in such cases, there isn't really anything you can do to stop or reverse the hair loss. You can ensure that your diet is healthy, as this has an effect on your hair. But this simply requires you to eat a wide variety of foods, and generally avoid excesses, particularly of fatty foods and spices. Beyond this, diet cannot do much to stop hair loss or grow back lost hair. Another thing you can do is to ensure that stress is minimal and that you get adequate sleep every night. If in spite of this you are losing hair, you may just have to accept it as part of the aging process.
