Split ends are directly connected with dry hair which arises from improper hair care and lack of adequate nutrition to your hair. You should remember that your hair is like an extension of your skin and reflects the condition of your body, so if you are not taking good care of your body and abusing its natural functioning, your hair will reflect that. It is important to nourish your hair with a balanced diet replenished with vitamins, proteins and minerals. Drink the recommended amount of liquids daily to keep your body and hair naturally hydrated. In addition to this, a good hair care routine is essential, so you should wash and condition your hair twice a week using a mild shampoo with a herbal base and avoid exposing your hair to strong chemical products, chemical treatments and the harmful effects of the sun, wind and pollution. Always cover your hair with a scarf or a wide-brimmed hat when you are stepping out to protect your hair from drying due to the sun and wind. This will also keep your hair protected from pollution.

In addition to this, there are several simple home remedies for treating split ends. Regular trimming is a must to get rid of the split ends and encourage your hair to grow. You can apply a hair pack made by blending half a medium sized papaya with half a cup of yoghurt. Make sure that you cover the hair strands completely from the roots to the tips. You can wash your hair with your normal shampoo after approximately 30 minutes. Regular application of this pack helps to nourish your hair, leaving it soft and shiny and prevents split ends. If papaya is unavailable, then a hair pack made with ½ a cup of curd and 1 tbsp of honey will also do the trick. A pack made by grinding ½ a cup of black lentil and 1 tbsp of fenugreek seeds and mixing it with ½ cup curd is also beneficial for treating dry hair and split ends. Applying ½ a cup of mayonnaise on your hair around 20 minutes before you wash it helps to naturally moisturize and condition your hair preventing split ends. Apart from this, you should avoid blow drying your hair since that excessively dries your hair, leaving it brittle and prone to split ends. Do not brush your hair excessively especially if you have dry hair and opt instead for a wide-toothed comb that does not tug on your hair.
