The size of skin pores is dictated by genetic factors but the problem can be aggravated if you have oily skin. People with oily skin usually produce excessive sebum making the pores appear larger. This further gives rise to the problem of accumulation of oil and dirt in the pores leading to blackheads and a skin that seems perpetually dirty. You can control the size of your pores, reducing them considerably, if you take good care of your skin by keeping it squeaky clean, regularly applying a toner, skin-tightening face masks and skin-toning creams. Since the T-zone of the face is most often affected with this problem, you should focus on keeping it oil-free by splashing water on your face several times a day and blotting your face with a tissue paper. It is important to wash your face twice a day using a glycerin based soap or face-wash and following this up with a good toner to get rid of any residue dirt and oil and close the open pores. Wiping your face with a cotton ball dipped in cool rose water or cucumber juice is a good alternative to toners. You can also wipe your face with tomato juice and wash it off after 15 to 20 minutes. The astringent qualities of tomato help to reduce the size of the pores. A facemask prepared using honey and lemon helps to tighten the skin and keeps the skin glowing and free of all infections, like acne.

Eggs are excellent ingredients for skin-tightening facemasks. You can use the membrane found on the inner-side of an egg shell and apply it on your face, washing it off after it dries. Alternately you can whip the egg white with a few drops of lemon juice and apply this on the face, washing it off with cold water once it is dry. This is excellent for reducing the size of the pores. Oatmeal and gram flour are also excellent for toning the skin, so you can prepare an excellent face-pack using oatmeal, gram flour, rose water, lemon juice and some curd. Another effective face pack can be prepared by grinding almond meal with water and applying it on the face for around 15 to 20 minutes. Papaya is also excellent for improving the texture of the skin and thus you can apply some mashed papaya on your face and wash it off after half an hour using lukewarm water.
