My scalp is oily and hair somewhat rough. No shampoo suits me except an herbal one. What should I do to prevent hair fall? Please help. I do not use any oil to message my scalp.

Our hair is a natural extension of our skin and body and it is imperative to take adequate care of it in order to have a healthy and lustrous mane that is the envy of everyone. The kind of hair we have is directly linked to our genetic structure and thus if you have oily hair, it is not because of the excess oil in your diet, but because of the excess production of oil by the sebaceous glands in the skin of your scalp. Sometimes oiliness can increase due to an imbalance in hormones, especially during adolescence, menstruation and pregnancy or due to intake of androgenic hormones for body building purposes. Oily hair often gives rise to other problems such as rough and dirty hair since it attracts dust. In order to have a healthy mane of shining hair, you should first ensure that it is clean. You should wash your hair twice a week using a mild, herbal based shampoo, with an alkaline base of pH 6.7 or higher. Avoid using strong chemical based hair-care products since they can damage your hair and lead to other problems such as hair fall. You do not need to condition your hair since oily hair has enough natural moisturizers and conditioning will just make it oily and limp. You should also avoid brushing your hair very often since this excites the sebaceous glands in the scalp and leads to increased oil secretion .

Apart from this, there are several simple home remedies that can help you to improve the texture of your hair and prevent problems such as hair fall. Regularly massaging your scalp with coconut oil which has been heated with a few pieces of Indian gooseberry is beneficial for improving the blood circulation in the scalp and preventing hair fall. You can wash your hair an hour after the oil massage using a natural shampoo and rinse out your hair using tea water. The tannic acid in the tea acts as an astringent and tones down the excessive oiliness, leaving your hair shiny and silky. You can also use diluted apple cider vinegar to rinse your hair after you have shampooed it to leave your hair silky and soft. Rinsing your hair with diluted lemon juice is beneficial for controlling dandruff, preventing hair fall and reducing the oiliness. Above all, remember to nourish your hair by drinking plenty of liquids and eating the right foods rich in essential nutrients.
