In order to do something about all the problems that you have mentioned you are faced with, the first thing you would have to do is to stop smoking. One of the primary things you should know about dark lips and gums is that for most part, they tend to be hereditary. If there is a family history of people with dark and discolored lips, there is a chance that you have inherited this particular type of pigmentation and will not be able to get rid of it. While quitting smoking will not change anything, it will at least help your lips to stop being exposed to nicotine and smoke and not darken them further. But it is a good idea to quit smoking anyway. This will help you with all the problems you have mentioned here. You should know that smoking almost always has a detrimental effect on your skin in many ways. Sometimes, the smoke will also be hot enough to singe your skin from certain spots. Also, if you hold your cigarette in a particular way it will give you dark skin. The part of your face that is most exposed to the flame will always tend to get darker over a period of time. Excessive heat and exposure to smoke may do these things. Smoking is also one of the leading causes of wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth. These are also the areas that tend to get the maximum amount of wrinkles in any case. Smoking merely adds to this.

While you may not be able to lighten the color of your lips and turn it to pink, you can follow some easy remedies to at least prevent them from darkening further. You should apply fresh yogurt to your lips and leave it on for a couple of hours each morning or night, whichever suits you best. This will work slowly and gradually to lighten the color of your lips. Make a paste with crushed rose petals and honey and apply this generously to your lips and the corners of your mouth. This will help not only with the discoloration of your lips; it will also help with reducing the wrinkles you have developed at the corners of your mouth. Applying fresh pomegranate juice to your lips will also help to reduce the discoloration. Follow these remedies for at least a few months before you can hope to see results.
