Hair and skin tend to dry out when exposed to sun, pollutants, cold air etc. Evidently, it's the cold, dry air of air conditioner that is affecting your husband's skin and hair. There are also internal factors like glands producing less oil that make skin and hair look dry and scaly. One of the best ways to hydrate skin and hair is drinking lots of water. But just that on its own cannot take care of the dryness and dullness. You can combine skin and hair remedies or even follow them separately. Some common tips are: Never use hot water for your skin or hair because it will dehydrate them further. Only cold or lukewarm water should be used. Add healthy oils to your husband's diet by serving him nuts and fish. Vitamin A, B and E also help relieve both dry skin and hair. If your husband smokes or consumes a lot of caffeine or nicotine, have him kick the habits. Exercising as regularly as possible improves blood circulation, activates the oil secretion and hydrates skin and hair. If not heavy or lengthy exercise, just about 20 minutes of brisk walking or some form of exercise at least thrice a week would be good.
For smooth and moisturized skin and hair, apply olive oil on scalp, hands and feet, wrap in plastic and wear socks, gloves and a towel on the head. Wash off next morning as you usually do. Massage the dry skin with it or mix olive in warm water and massage your hair and scalp every night. Olive oil can be used as a skin moisturizer or body moisturizer after bath. You can also combine olive oil with a paste of one ripe banana. Apply it on the dry skin for 10 minutes and wash it off. The emolliating agents in banana will hydrate the dry skin. Yogurt, egg yolk and mayonnaise are also good for both skin and hair. Take yolk of a raw egg, add a tablespoon of (full fat not fat free) mayonnaise or yogurt (add ½ teaspoon of almond oil if using yogurt). Apply to skin and scalp lightly and let it dry. Wash it off with cold water. If your husband follows any of these remedies along with all dietary and lifestyle regimes, his hair and skin will be very healthy, regardless of air conditioner or any other external factor.
