At your age, your body is undergoing a lot of changes, including rather drastic hormonal changes that often lead to problems like acne. It is important to understand that this is just a phase; eventually your body will settle down, and your skin will be normal. You should therefore avoid any drastic, invasive skin treatments till you are out of your teens and you are sure that you really need them. Most of the problems you are facing now will disappear within a few years, so all you need is a little patience and a few mild treatments.
First of all, the acne - this is probably the most common skin problem faced during the teen years. The hormonal changes that take place seem to affect the way the skin grows. Normally, dead skin cells are constantly discarded at a steady rate, and new skin is pushed to the surface. With acne, what is happening is that the dead cells are accumulating on the surface of the skin, where they end up blocking pores. As a result, sebum starts to accumulate within the pores, forming a pimple. Very often, bacteria that are present on the skin also start to attack the sebum, leading to inflammation.
The best treatment for an acne problem is an over the counter acne cream - home remedies sometimes work, but they are not always reliable, and it is therefore best to go for a tested, proven treatment. One thing you need to ensure is that the cream you use contains either salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide, as any other cream will be useless. These two ingredients are very important as they help the skin to get rid of dead cells efficiently once again, and also reduce the chances of bacteria infecting the pimples. You should also note that these creams may take a long time to work, and you may need to apply them regularly for several months before you see any results.
In addition, simple hygiene is important to minimize pimples and generally keep your skin looking good. Wash your face several times a day (remember to avoid touching your pimples otherwise, or scratching, squeezing, and plucking at them), but avoid using soap more than twice a day. A couple of times a week, you can apply honey and turmeric powder on your face for fifteen minutes, and then wash it off with plain water. Apart from this, you simply need to have a healthy, balanced diet, lots of exercise, and adequate rest.
