Causes of dry cracked heels - You seem to have a very dry skin. When the skin dries out it loses its elasticity. So when you walk around it starts cracking. This leads to further loss of moisture from the deeper levels of the skin, and the result is deep cracks in your heels. These deep cracks expose the delicate underlying area under the skin to dirt, dust and bacteria. When this is left untreated it causes an infection leading to foot fungus and other bacterial infection. You need to take good care of your entire body, not just from the outside but also from the inside. You have probably neglected your feet for a long time, which is why you have the above-mentioned symptoms. Dry cracked heels are usually a problem during winter when the air is dry so the body loses more moisture. Constant exposure to the sun, dirt, dust and wearing footwear like sandals and flip-flops also causes an increase in the moisture loss and causes infection. Being overweight puts too much pressure on your feet and can also lead to the above-mentioned symptoms. Similarly walking bare foot most of the time and soaking your feet excessively also causes these problems. You need to identify which of these reasons is causing you these problems and then treat it accordingly.

You can try a simple step-by-step routine as a treatment to heal dry cracked heels. Since you have already developed a fungal infection it would be best for you to get your feet medically examined. Your doctor will probably recommend a good quality intense antibacterial moisturizer, which is specific to your problem. This will restore and replenish the moisture and also help to rid and control the fungal infection. Once the infection is gone you can try the following as a treatment for dry cracked heels. Do it at least once a week before going to bed to get rid of dry cracked heels. Wash your feet and soak in warm water for about half an hour. Then use a good deep cleansing foot shampoo and with a soft brush gently work up lather and brush off all the dirt and grime. Rinse your feet after this and using a good foot file get rid of all the hard dried dead skin. Take care to work the file in horizontal way. Do this on the soles and heels of your feet and then rinse well. Apply a good scrub all over your feet and massage to get rid of the dead skin on your toes, over your feet and ankles. Rinse thoroughly and dry your feet well with a soft towel. Now apply an intense moisturizing foot cream or pure petroleum jelly and massage well. Cover your feet with thick socks at least until the next morning.
