You have been suffering from this problem for a year now and still trying different creams. Has your doctor recommended this to you? It seems more like your experimenting with different chemical formulations. This could probably be the reason why it's still not cured. Besides your dermatologist needs to supervise the medicines. He will examine you and prescribe the most suitable medicine and treatment. Please see a dermatologist as soon as you can. Tinea versicolor is caused due to overgrowth of the yeast Malassezia furfur. This yeast is commonly present on the skin but it becomes a problem when it starts multiplying rapidly under certain conditions like warm, moist oily and humid skin. The yeast then forms colonies on the skin and they let out an acidic kind of bleach that leads to the change in skin color.

This problem is quite common in tropical countries, particularly during the summer as this season offers ideal breeding conditions. So you should try to avoid warm places, as it would get worse. At times the fungus appears on the skin as spots and or looks like patches. It is white on people with fair complexion and reddish brown on people with dark complexion. It causes itching that intensifies with heat. This problem is more commonly found among people between the age group of 13-30, especially those with an oily skin type. Take care of the following points:

  • Maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Try and keep your skin clean and dry at all times. Use an antiseptic body wash or soap, check with your dermatologist for the same. Bathe regularly and dry your skin well. Also try and keep your skin cool and dry, as heat and moisture will make the problem worse. You may use baby powder or something recommended by your dermatologist to keep your skin dry.
  • Use clean and well washed nightclothes, bed sheets and pillows and change them daily. The fungus remains on the clothes as well so do not wear the same clothes again unless they are washed clean and dried thoroughly. This will help to control the infection.
  • Eat healthy. Have lots of raw fruits, salads and green leafy vegetables. Also have curd and buttermilk as the acidophilus present in it controls the growth of yeast and the spread of infection. Have one to two cloves of garlic daily as it has antifungal properties.
  • Try and avoid processed foods made of sugar and flour.
