Skin color may no longer be a measure of one's beauty but unnaturally darkened or tanned skin can be a blemish and cause for concern. Although many people have naturally dark and attractive skin, darkening of the skin can at times be the result of other factors like hyper pigmentation. This can result in the skin appearing patchy and blemished. Many people use over the counter medications and bleaching products to lighten the skin, but these are extremely harsh and contain chemicals like hydroquinone that can further damage the skin. Natural remedies on the other hand are completely safe, easily obtainable, inexpensive and free of any harmful side effects.

Here are some natural and home remedies that will help lighten the effects of suntan and improve your daughter's complexion. These remedies however, must be incorporated into your regular routine and followed daily for them to be effective.

  • Raw potato juice is the best natural remedy for tanned skin. It acts as a natural bleach and will counter the effects of tanning. Apply the juice directly on the areas of skin that have been tanned.
  • Cucumber juice can also be used as a natural bleaching agent in the same manner as potato. Applying peels or slices of cucumber on the skin can make a significant difference.
  • Lemon juice can also come in handy. Make a mixture of lemon juice, sugar and some glycerin. Scrub the darkened regions in a circular motion. This will not just get rid of the tan, but will also soften the skin.
  • A mixture of potato juice and lemon juice in equal proportions can also help get rid of the effects of the suntan. Apply the juice on to the areas of skin that have been darkened. Wash off the solution after around fifteen minutes. Keep doing this once every day until the tan has disappeared.
  • Apply a mixture of lemon juice and turmeric powder onto any portions of skin that are darkened. This will help to remove the tan.
  • Make a paste with some oatmeal, tomato juice and curd and apply it onto the tanned skin. You can wash it off after approximately twenty minutes with cold water. This will help to get rid of the tan and lighten the skin.

Sunscreen is one of the most important products for skin care and will help to protect your daughter's skin from further suntan. Do not chose sunscreen lotions with a sun protection factor less than fifteen. In addition to using sunscreen try to ensure that your daughter does not venture out at mid day or early noon, when the suns radiation is strongest.
