In order to reduce swelling of any kind, there are some simple remedies you can use at home. If your lip is swollen and accompanied with cold sores, and if the sores are open as well, there are some additives you can add to the remedial measures you take which will help to heal your sores to a very large extent. The first thing you must do for swelling is to apply an ice pack to it. This should be done as many times as you like. The coolness will automatically bring down the swelling of the lip. However, after trying this for 24 hours, if you see that it does not work. You must stop. Alternatively, try to apply a hot pack to your swelling. Sometimes, hot packs also work. The heat will distribute the blood accumulated in the area and disperse it, thus causing the swelling to subside and subsequently recede as well. After you have managed to reduce the pain associated with the inflammation, you can also try some healing measures to see if it works.

Make a mix of Fuller's Earth and water, to which you can add a teaspoon of turmeric powder. This can be applied to swollen areas and left till it dries. Then, you can either brush it off, or simply wash it off. Fuller's Earth has some excellent healing properties that will also help to bring down swelling. It is very cooling in nature and will aid in reducing inflammation by reducing the temperature of your body in the particular area. You can also try another old remedy if your lip is swollen. Make dough of plain flour, rose water, milk and a strand of saffron. This should be kneaded well and applied to the inflamed surface. Leave it on for at least an hour. This will bring down the swelling dramatically and will also help to heal the sores, if there are any open ones. A mixture of all of these remedial measures can help to bring down the swelling of swollen lips. For your cold sores, you can also apply fresh and cool yogurt to the area. This will also work at curing your sores. Yogurt contains live and active bacteria that will feed of the viral infection on your lip and help to cure. It is also known to be one of the fastest and most effective cures for cold sores that are visible on any part of the body. Try all the remedies for at least a week before you see results.
